Tucked beneath a striped green awning and accompanied by a luscious pot plant garden, Ogino is a local neighbourhood gem just a minute’s walk from Tokyobike Rentals.

The shop’s founder, Akira Ogino, has been making wagashi (Japanese confectionery) in Yanaka for almost four decades, during which time his traditional creations have become firmly entrenched in the hearts of both local residents and sweet-toothed visitors alike.

Attracting a steady stream of customers throughout the day, the shop has a glass display case filled with a mix of standard and seasonal offerings. And while the enticing lineup often presents a pleasant dilemma, the classic mame daifuku (rice cakes filled with bean paste) and yaki dango (skewered rice cakes drizzled with syrup) offer a delightfully sweet introduction to this Yanaka favourite.
